July, 2026
For 2026, all twelve months of tips will follow a common theme: 12 Powers for our Planet, based on the national Unity EarthCare program. The Unity 12 Powers will also be explored yearlong at USCW through our Fourth Sunday themed services.
This month we explore the power of Understanding.
Power 7 – Understanding
The Unity power of Understanding is the ability of the mind to comprehend and realize the laws of thought and the relation of ideas to one another. It involves being able to make sense of facts, knowledge and ideas and allow insight to shape knowledge.
Understanding goes beyond simply knowing “what,” and focuses on your
knowing “why.”
It helps to not only know what the scientific consensus is on an issue, such as climate change or microplastics, but to gain an awareness of why scientists communicate what they do.
That makes us better environmental advocates to have a deep enough understanding of the issues to not just parrot surface-level talking points (or say “but the consensus”).
Understanding enables us to communicate with truly knowing the deeper meaning.
In Unity, we emphasize going into the silence and using our informed intuition to help reach an inner understanding beyond the “book knowledge.”
A spiritual exercise: Go outside. Breathe deeply and feel your connection to the Earth flowing up to you through the ground, flowing into your feet and hands, coursing through you and connecting deep down into the Earth like the roots of a mighty tree. Feel how you are one with creation.
